13: LAUPAHOEHOE MUSIC FESTIVAL
Laupahoehoe Point Beach Park, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This cultural event highlights top Hawaiian music and hula performers. Food, craft booths and carnival games are also part of the festival.

21–27: MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL
Hilo, locations and times vary
This week-long annual festival celebrates Hawaiian culture. Named in honor of King David Kaläkaua who was known for his support of the Hawaiian arts, the festival includes hula performances, craft fairs and a grand parade through Hilo.

 

 

 

 

Kauai

27: KAUA‘I BREWERS FESTIVAL
Po‘ipu Beach Athletic Club, 2 to 6 p.m.
Sample craft beer from local breweries across the state, as well as the mainland, while eating püpü from a number of top restaurants on the island. Listen to music and enjoy the sunny south shore during the festivities which benefit local charities.

TBD: 11TH ANNUAL MAUI STEEL GUITAR FESTIVAL

This three-day festival, which in the past has large­ly taken place at Ka‘anapali Beach Hotel, offers performances and workshops dedi­cated toward the Hawaiian Steel Guitar.

22: EARTH DAY

Hawai‘i celebrates this international event in its own special way, focusing on how climate and environmental changes affect us all. In past years, one of the most popular family-friendly activities has been the various beach cleanups that take place across the Islands.
